Shtar Chalitza. Titenheim, [1765] signed by Rabbi Yaakov Steinhart.
"Shtar Chalitza" – including a commitment by the husband’s brother Lachlotz for his sister-in-law if the husband passes away without sons. Confirmed by the signature of Rabbi Yaakov Steinhart Dayan on Gunzenhausen and the vicinity. Titenheim [south Germany], [1765].
[1] leaf, 24 cm. The Shtar is signed by the witnesses Chaim bar Menachem Segal Shatz and Ne’eman Titenheim and Shneur bar Yitachak Segal. The witnesses’ signatures were confirmed by the regional Dayan, Rabbi Yaakov Steinhart. Enclosed with this item is a leaf with the typed content of the Shtar.
Rabbi Yaakov ben Rabbi Shmuel Steinhart, served as Rav and Dayan of the Gunzenhausen community and nearby communities during the years 1752-1794. In his time, the title Rav was cancelled in the area and the regional Dayan served in practice as the Rav of the state.
