Elucidation on the Torah by Rabbi Moshe ben Rabbi Nachman Girondi. Marco Antonio Justinian Press, Venice, [1545]. Second edition, rare. 

156, [1] leaves. 28 cm. Some of the title page and the following leaf are missing and were completed with script. On the title page, the signature of Rabbi Yitzchak Aboab. A handwritten gloss on the margin of leaf 6. 

Rabbi Yitzchak Aboab (the third, ben Rabbi David) de Fonseca (1605-1693) – fearing the Inquisition, he escaped as a child with his family from Portugal to Amsterdam. There, he was a disciple of Rabbi Yitzchak Uziel. In 1625, when he was only twenty, he was appointed Rav of the Jewish-Portuguese community of Amsterdam. During the years 1642-1649, he served as Rav and Av Beis Din of Pernambuco, Brazil and was one of the first rabbis and Jewish writers in America. When Brazil was occupied by Portugal, he returned to Amsterdam and his position of Rav of its Jewish-Portuguese community. 

Renewed binding. Stains. Blemishes affecting the text of the first two leaves; the missing text was completed with script. Moth holes. Fair condition.
