The Simcha of Erlau-Bonyhad! Printed invitation that was sent by the holy Gaon Rabbi Shimon Sofer, author of Hitorerut Teshuva of Erlau, and his in-law, the holy Gaon Rabbi Eliezer Chaim Deutsch Av Beis Din of Bonyhad, to the great Gaon Rabbi Akiva Yosef Schlesinger author of the Lev HaIvri, for the wedding of the daughter of Maran the Hitorerut Teshuva and the son of the Av Beis Din of Bonyhad and future Av Beis Din of Sabodka. 1900. 


On verso of the invitation, a foreign notation ‘Rabbiner A.J. Schlesinger, Jerusalem, Palestine’. 


The wedding of the bridegroom Rabbi Moshe Deutsch, the future Rav of Sabodka, and the bride Mrs. Sarah, was to take place in Erlau, the bride’s hometown, in Adar B. 

The invitation bears the heading: ’קול קורא בקריאה של חיבה’ and it is interesting to note that the bride’s name appears above the groom’s name although it is a not a private invitation of her family only. 

On the lower part of the printed invitation, an address for telegrams in a foreign language ‘Rabinner Schreiber Erlau’.


The holy Gaon author of Hitorerut Teshuva Rabbi Shimon Sofer of Erlau [1850-1944] the grandson of Maran the Chassam Sofer, since 1881 Rav and Av Beis Din of the city and the Rosh Yeshiva of its large yeshiva. He headed the campaign against the destroyers of religion, continuing the campaign of his father and grandfather. Authored the ‘Hitorerus Teshuva’ Shut, 4 sections and the Sefer ‘Shir Maon’. Perished in Auschwitz with the Hungarian Jewry in summer 1944, at the old age of 95. 

The holy Gaon Rabbi Eliezer Chaim Deutsch, one of the greatest Meshivim [1850-1915], one of the Geonim of Hungary. Studied with the holy Gaon of Halmin and with Maran Rabbi Yehuda Assad and was a leading disciple of Maran the Maharm Esh. For twenty years he served as Rav of Honishvitsh and for twenty years as Rav of Bonyhad, where he was also a Posek and Rosh Yeshiva of hundreds. Was a great Meshiv in Hungary and there is no Shut Sefer that does not refer to him. Authored Seforim on all subjects of the Torah.

His son the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Moshe Deutsch was the son-in-law of the holy Gaon Rabbi Shimon Sofer author of Hitorerut Teshuva of Erlau. His renowned son-in-law was the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Yosef Hacohen Schwartz author of Vayelakes Yosef, a renowned Rrav of Hungary between the two world wars.
