The Divine Kabbalist Rabbi Moshe ben Rabbi Mordechai Zacuto, the Remez (ca. 1625-1697) – one of the greatest rabbis and Kabbalists in Italy and one of the leading commentators on the holy Zohar. Was born in Amsterdam, was the disciple of Rabbi Shaul Morteira and later, travelled to Poland to study Kabbalah with Rabbi Yitzchak Posno. In 1645, he moved to Venice where he served as the Rosh Yeshiva of a large yeshiva. Later he studied the Torah of the Ari with the Shadar from Safed Rabbi Binyomin Halevi, a disciple of Rabbi Chaim Vital. Since 1673, served as a Rav and Rosh Yeshiva in Mantova. The students of his yeshiva copied the writings of the holy Ari and distributed his Torah and customs.
