Approbation handwritten and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Sholom Elyoshiv for an edition of Sefer Rashba. Jerusalem, 1987.
The approbation was given to Rabbi Menachem Mendel Gerlitz and the Orayta Institute for an edition of the important book Rashba by Rabbeinu Rabbi Shmuel ben Aderet, one of the Rishonim.
The Gaon Rabbi Yosef Sholom Elyoshiv writes with untypical love and fondness, blessing that they see blessing in their work and praising the book.
On the margins of the approbation letter, which was handwritten and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Sholom Elyoshiv, he encloses the book’s price and payment for its purchase.
Amud HaHora’ah Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Sholom Elyoshiv [1910-2020] Amud HaHora’ah Posek Hador. The son of the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Elyoshiv and the grandson of the Kabbalist Gaon the Tzaddik author of the ‘Leshem’. At the age of 14, he immigrated to the Holy Land, living all his life in the Meah She’arim neighborhood, in never-ending study of the Torah. Was renowned all around the world for his special Psikah, genius and diligence. Served as Dayan of the supreme Beis Din of appeals of the Chief Rabbinate, which he left in 1973 in the midst of the Mamzerim affair. He was one of the supporters of establishing the ‘Degel HaTorah’ party and in his old age was acknowledged as Posek Hador and the leader of the Lithuanian community.
