Netivot Olam by the Maharal, 1810, without a title page. On the first leaf, the handwritten signature of Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Liska, the Rav of Rabbi Yeshayaleh of Kerestir.
His handwritten signature appears on leaf 1, indicating the title page was missing from the copy when it was owned by the Rav of Liska.
The Gaon Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Liska [1808-1874] One of the greatest Tzaddikim of Hungary, in his youth, he studied Torah with the Gaon the Tiv Giittin and the Gaon Rabbi Avraham of Dembitz. Then he became a leading disciple of the Rav the Yismach Moshe of Ujhely (Sátoraljaújhely), and a disciple of the Rav Rabbi Yisroel of Ruzhin, the Rav Rabbi Meir of Premishlan, the Rav the Sar-Shalom of Belz, and the holy Rav the Divrei Chaim of Sanz.
He accepted the request of his Rav, the Yismach Moshe, to serve as Rav and Admor of Liska and thousands of Chassidim from all over Hungary used to come to him for blessings and advice. Authored the holy Sefroim of Ach Pri Tevuah and ‘Hayashar Vehatov’, in which these sermons were printed with lingual and textual variations. His leading disciple the holy Gaon Rabbi Yeshayale Kerestir used to sign:
הק’ ישעי’ בן מו"ה משה ז"ל שהי’ משמש בקודש אצל הרב הצדיק מליסקא זי"ע, attributing his greatness and many virtues to his Rav.
90 leaves. Missing title page. Many stains. Fungus damage and stains. Faint pencil notations. Slight professional restoration, not affecting the text. Late binding, fine and complete.
