The Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Algazi (1610-1683) a disciple of Rabbi Yosef Sasson and Rabbi Meir de Buton. At the age of 25, immigrated to Eretz Yisroel and later was appointed Dayan of Jerusalem. Served as Rav of the Jewish community of Izmir, Turkey and waged a war against Shabtai Zvi and his followers. Subsequently, he was forced to flee Turkey and returned to Jerusalem.
The Mekubal Rabbi Moshe ben Rabbi Mordechai Zacuto, the Remez (ca. 1625-1697) – one of the greatest rabbis and Kabbalists in Italy and one of the leading commentators on the holy Zohar. Was born in Amsterdam, was the disciple of Rabbi Shaul Morteira and later, travelled to Poland to study Kabbalah with Rabbi Yitzchak Posno. In 1645, he moved to Venice where he served as the Rosh Yeshiva of a large yeshiva. Later he studied the Torah of the Ari with the Shadar from Safed Rabbi Binyomin Halevi, a disciple of Rabbi Chaim Vital. Since 1673, served as a Rav and Rosh Yeshiva in Mantova. The students of his yeshiva copied the writings of the holy Ari and distributed his Torah and customs. The Remez wrote Piyyutim, edited and published many Seforim and authored dozens of Sedorim on the Nigleh and the Nistar, including ‘Shut HaRemze’, ‘Igrot HaRemez’, ‘Kol HaRemez’, ‘Mikdash Melech’ and ‘Hadrat Melech’, and more.
The Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Heller [1803-1884] the famed Rav of Safed, a descendant of the author of the Tosfot Yom Tov Rabbeinu Yom Tov Lipman Heller. In his youth, he lived in the house of the Chozeh of Lublin and was blessed by him. Immigrated to the Holy Land by his advice in 1810 and after the passing of the holy Rav Rabbi Avraham Dov Mevritch the author of Bat Ayin, Rabbi Shmuel was appointed the Rav of Safed, a position he held for forty years, until his passing. Was also knowledgeable in medicine and pharmacy, bringing relief to the Jews of Safed.
