Letter on charity and teaching Torah handwritten and signed by the Tzaddik Rabbi Eliyahu Guttmacher of Greiditz. 1874.
The letter was sent to his beloved friend Rabbi Yaakov Mordechai Hirschson, who immigrated from Pinsk to Safed where he established two yeshivas, eventually moving them to Jerusalem.
In his letter, he informs him about donations he raised for the yeshiva from the residents of New York.
The Tzaddik of Greiditz ends his letter with the words: ‘ידידו ואוהב נפשו’.
The Gaon Rabbi Eliyahu Guttmacher of Greiditz [1796-1875] one of the greatest disciples of Rabbi Akiva Eiger, a wonder worker whom thousands revered. Loved Eretz Yisroel with all his heart and was famed for his work for its settlement.
