Letter of recommendation for Hachnosas Kalah handwritten and signed by the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Yeshaya First, Av Beis Din of the Adas Yisroel community of Vienna (the leading Rav of the author of Shevet Halevi) – Mattersdorf – Vienna, before 1926
Written on the first page of this leaf is a request for Hachnasas Kalah handwritten by Rabbi Moshe Yoav Weiss, one of the important Marbitzei Torah of Mattersdorf. The letter of request was written to the Rabbi Dr. Asher Michael (Arthur) Cohen (Kahn) Av Beis Din of Basel.
Written on the back page is a letter of recommendation handwritten and signed and with the stamp of the Tzaddik gaon Rabbi Yeshaya First Av Beis Din of the Adas Yisroel community of Vienna, asking Rabbi Kahn to help Moshe Yoav Weiss with his daughter’s marriage.
The Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Yeshaya First [1857-1943] one of the important disciples of the Maranan the Kesav Sofer and the Shevet Sofer and one of the leading founders of Agudas Yisroel. Rav of the Tirno and Preshov communities and Rav and Av Beis Din of the Adas Yisroel community (Schif-Schul) of Vienna. With the destruction of the community during the Anschluss of Austria in 1938, he escaped to London, where he lived, operated and passed away in 1943. Author of Sefer Chazon Yeshaya.
Rabbi Moshe Yoav Weiss (passed away in 1925) was one of the important Marbitzei Torah of Mattersdorf and most of the Talmidei Chachamim there were his disciples.
