Handwritten copy of Sefer Yad Charuzim, Venice 1573 [i.e. 1740] edition. 

Alphabetically ordered dictionary of rhymes, with rules for rhyming, by Reb Gershom Chefetz. Handwritten copy of the second edition. 

[9], 51, 24 leaves. 17 cm. Written on the title page: "Venice 1573"; should be Venice, 1740. Stamp of the Sheidel Collection and Yehuda Alberg. 

Reb Gershom ben Rabbi Moshe Chefetz (1682-1699) of Italy who became sick and passed away at the age of 17, leaving behind the book Yad Charuzim and a poem on Taryag Mitzvot. A eulogy for him, by Rabbi Shlomo Nitzah, appears in the Venice 1700 edition of Yad Charuzim.

Yehuda Alberg (1912-2003) a Yiddish author, the son of Rabbi Avraham Bosson Alberg Av Beis Din of Sonik and grandson of Rabbi Zvi Yechezkel Michelson Av Beis Din of Plonsk and one of the leading rabbis of Warsaw. During the Holocaust was occupied with saving Jews and resisting the Nazis in Lodz and Warsaw. After the war, moved to Montreal and published many stories documenting the life of the Shteitel in Yiddish literary journals.
