Rare letter from Maran Rabbi Yitzchak Yaakov Weiss, Gaon Av Beit Din of Yerushalayim and Master of Eretz Yisrael, from the time he served as Av Beit Din of Manchester, written to the marvelous Gaon Rabbi Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg, author of “Seridei Esh, ” in which he describes his immense toil in publishing his incredible Responsa “Minchat Yitzchak.”
The letter was written in 1956, and sent to Rabbi Weinberg, who was interested in publishing his own worthy Sefer “Seridei Esh”, and inquired from Maran the Minchat Yitzchak regarding the how and how much were the printing costs of the responsa he had published during that time.
Maran the Minchat Yitzchak writes in detail how much was the cost of every page and every edition, and emphasizes: “To the best of my knowledge, exchange rates and paper prices have gone up since then, ” and adds many words of blessing and encouragement to the “Seridei Esh” for success in publishing his Seforim.
Maran the immense Gaon, Rabbi Yitzchak Yaakov Weiss, author of “Minchat Yitzchak” [1902 – 1989] one of the leading Poskim in the nation. Dayan of Großwardein, and rebuilder of the faith after the war. Head of the Beit Din in Manchester, deputy Raava”d, then Raava”d of the Eidah Charedit, and later Gaava”d of Yerushalayim and Master of Eretz Yisrael. Questions and issues were sent to him from all ends of the Torah world, and he ruled and judged for many years.
The marvelous Gaon Rabbi Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg, author of “Seridei Esh” [1884 – 1965] toiled in learning in the Yeshivot of Mir and Slabodka, served as Rabbi of several towns in Lithuania. He stood at the head of the Rabbinical College in Berlin. His rulings served as cornerstones of the pious and righteous of Germany and he was counted as one of the greatest Rabbanim who stood at the forefront of the diaspora in Ashkenaz. Torah giants from all sectors greatly appreciated his wisdom and his great works.
