The press of Reuven and Nissim Ashkenazi, Kushta, [1745]. First edition. Rare. With glosses signed by Rabbi Yaakov Antebi and Rabbi Yehuda Sid.
[4], 121, [1]; 35, [1] leaves. 30 cm. Special title page for Sefer Ara Derabbanan. On the title page, stamps of Yosef Cachar Moshe, signature of Rabbi Yaakov Antebi, Ladino notation and a dedication to a Beis Midrash: "גואל אחרון למדרש מע’ הגביר ס"ט חלפון עטייא נר"ו". With [14] handwritten comments and glosses, some of them signed by Rabbi Yaakov Antebi, including a lengthy comment of [8] lines handwritten and signed by Rabbi Yaakov Antebi. One of the glosses is signed by Rabbi Yehuda Sid. These comments were, apparently, not published.
Rabbi Yehuda ben Rabbi Mano’ach Sid (passed away in 1815) – a leading disciple of Rabbi Reuven ben Yaakov Av Beis Din of Sofia, Bulgaria. In ca. 1809, immigrated to Eretz Yisroel and settled in Safed. Author of Ot Emet (Salonika, 1799) and Ner Mitzvah (two sections, Salonika, 1810-1811).
Rabbi Yaakov ben Rabbi David Yitzchak Antebi (1787-1847) was born in Haleb (Aleppo), Syria. Was a great Talmid Chacham in Nigleh and Nistar, receiving his Hora’ah Semicha in 1809. Received his rabbinic Semicha by the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Raphael Yosef Chazan. After his marriage, served as Av Beis Din of Damascus. In 1840, during the events of the Damascus Affair, he was arrested and tortured. Following the efforts of Sir Moses Montefiore, the Rav was released in 1841 and settled in Jerusalem. Some of his many innovations were published in Sefer Abir Yaakov and his memories from the time he was imprisoned were published at the end of Sefer Ohel Yesharim.
