Sefer Halichot Olam by Rabbi Yeshua Halevi – Sabbioneta 1567 – Glosses in Ashkenazic-style handwriting along most of the Sefer’s pages, among them an abbreviation of the Sefer Yavin Shemu’ah by Rabbi Shlomo Algazi.
At the beginning of the glosses in the Sefer, the transcriber writes:
“from the nice Sefer Yavin Shemu’ah which was lent to me for not many days, and I will sometimes write in in short.” This means that the Sefer ‘Halichot Olam’, with the commentary ‘Yavin Shemu’ah’ (which had been printed for the first time in Venice, 1639) was lent to the transcriber for a few days, during which he copied most of the commentary ‘Yavin Shemu’ah’ on the margins of his copy of ‘Halichot Olam’. Some of the sections of the ‘Yavin Shemu’ah’ were copied as-is, and some (perhaps most) were shortened, and only the gist of their content was written.
The writer bound into the Sefer nine additional leaves, in order to transcribe on them the longer sections of ‘Yavin Shemu’ah’.
(The writing appears to date circa late 1700’s or early 1800’s).
