An interesting postcard written by the famous Shochet Rabbi Asher Anshel Grunwald, the “Mateh Asher”, sent to the sextons of the holy Reb Yoel of Satmar (when he still resided in Krula), asking to be allowed to serve as the Rebbe’s Shochet during his planned travel from Satmar to EY in the summer of 1932. Uzhhorod, 1932.

Sent to Rabbi Feivush Ashkenazi (father of the famous meshamesh R’ Yosef Ashkenazi) and to Rabbi Shmuel Hacohen Schwartz, who were then the Rebbe’s meshamshim in Krula. He requests that they suggest to the holy Rebbe of Satmar that he is prepared to serve as his personal Shochet throughout the entire trip planned for the summer of that year.

Please see the Hebrew listing for biographical information on the Mateh Asher and for quotes from the letter.
