A unique and historical letter in which the trustee and confidante of the holy Master of the Generation Rabbi Avraham Matityahu of Shtefanesht describes the appointment of his nephew, Rabbi Menachem Nochum of Itzkan – to be the successor of his holy uncle and a Rebbe in Shtefanesht. Oct. 1920.
The letter was sent to the righteous genius Rabbi Avraham Leib Silberman, the Rabbi of Tzfas, from the illustrious members of the community in Shtefanesht.
As is well known, the holy Rebbe of Shtefanesht did not merit children, and therefore decided to appoint his nephew, Reb Nachumnyu of Itzkan, son-in-law of Rabbi Yisrael of Tchortkov, as his successor. In the end, the intended Rebbe of Shtefanesht passed away a month before his uncle’s passing, bringing an end to the Shtefanesht dynasty.
The letter informs Rabbi Avraham Abish Silberman of Tzfas about the appointment and of the impending arrival of Rabbi Menachem Nochum in Shtefanesht.
