Discovery – a manuscript in the holy handwriting of Rabbi Yosef Tzarfati of Adrianople, author of the famous Sefer Yad Yosef – Speech for the Holiday of Sukkot – 6 pages in his holy handwriting which were not printed in his Sefer Yad Yosef. Adrianople (Turkey), early 17th century – eastern script
Before us are 6 pages in the holy handwriting of the known speaker Rabbi Yosef Tzarfati, one of the greatest of the sages of Adrianople. The speech deals with the mitzvah of Sukkuka and the four species. It was not printed in the Sefer Yad Yosef.
This speech was apparently written immediately after being said, as per the author’s words in the preface to his book “and immediately everything that came out of my mouth I would put down in ink on paper”, and many phrases which are more suitable to a live speech then to a printed book have been preserved in it.
