Rabbi Yaakov Shalom Klein, Av Beis Din of Halmin and its environs (1877-1944). From the leading Rabbis of Hungary and Transylvania. Son of the holy Tzaddik Rabbi Eliyahu, Av Beis Din of Halmin. Son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Tzvi Fuchs, Av Beis Din of Großwardein. Served as a Dayan in Großwardein from 1903 where he established a Yeshiva for youth. From 1928 he took over his father’s position as Av Beis Din and Rosh Mesivta in Halmin, causing it to become a central and illustrious location for increasing Torah study, and raised many thousands of disciples.
In December of 1936 the great convention of all representatives of the Orthodox communities in Transylvania took place in Klausenburg. The convention elected 5 members to serve on the presidium, one of whom was Rabbi Yaakov Shalom Klein. However, he resigned his position in the “Committee of Five” so that the holy Rabbi Yoel of Satmar could take his place on it.
