Interesting bibliographic comments handwritten by the scholar Reb Yaakov Reifman – before 1895.
Several short scholarly comments on the following books: Avkat Rochel attributed to Rabbeinu Machir, Rashi’s Rav, Lviv 1872 edition; Sefer Ruach Chen attributed to Rabbi Yehuda ibn Tibbon ; on the Hatkafot of the Ibn Ezra on the Kalir Piyyutim; on Midrash Asseret Hadibrot and on Massiyot LeRabbi Nissim.
Appearing at the end of the comments, his signature: "יעקב רייפמאנן".
Apparently, these pages were sent to a literary journal that used to publish his writings.
The scholar Reb Yaakov Reifman (1818–1895) was a prolific and educated writer and historian, and immensely versed in all that related to Seforim and their authors. Amongst the Orthodox he was considered a ‘Maskil’, while the Maskilim considered him Orthodox, due to his flawless keeping of Mitzvos. It is told that his wife was attracted to the Chassidic teachings, and conferred with the holy Rebbe Rabbi Leibeleh of Lublin on the question of whether to keep their son away from him, due to his leanings towards Haskala. The Rebbe asked her whether her husband washes his hands every morning, and when she answered in the affirmative, he told her that she has nothing to worry about, and should not keep her son away from him.
