Strong protest against permitting preforming Halitza via a messenger, handwritten and signed by the great Gaon, Rabbi Yehezkel Libshutz, Rabbi of Kalisz, 1928.
The protest, extremely sharp, is entirely in his own handwriting and in it he quotes the opinion of the holy Geonim the Chiddushei Hari”m and the Eglei Tal, and the leader of Morei Hora’ah in the land, the Maharasham of Berzan, who did not find any permits for this.
“Today there are many revisionist rabbis who revise and claim that they are tearing down for the purpose of rebuilding. But experience has shown that their tering down is a permanent one, and they will build nothing with their innovations, and the breach in the wall of our holy religion is increasing more and more due to our sins, and it is not time to renew, only to hold on to what our forefathers, by whose rulings we live, instilled in us.”
The Great Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Libshutz, Av Beis Din of Kalisz (1867–19320), one of the leading rabbis in Poland before World War II. From 1907, he succeeded the “Nefesh Chaya” as Av Beis Din of Kalisz and chairman of the Rabbinical Council in Poland. Author of the Sefer ‘HaMidrash VeHaMa’aseh’. His Chiddushim and teachings can be found in his Seforim and many collections published in Poland.
