The Gaon Rabbi David Tevel son of Naftali Hertz Katenelenbogen (1850–1930). Rabbi of several communities in Lithuania and Russia: Wierzbołów, Kybartai, Suwałki, and the capital S. Petersburg. Author of “Ezer LeBar Mitzvah” (1914), “Mei Nafto’ach” (1924), and “Divrei David” (1928). The eldest of Russia’s rabbis, who continued his holy work even under the rule of the antagonistic Bolsheviks. The need to find a solution to problems of Agunos became very pertinent during that terrible time after WWI, revolutions, and local conflicts. The author finds solutions to those difficult questions of the Agunos, through deep study and research of the rulings in tractate Yevamot, as this tractate is “known to be the lead in all Halacos regarding remedies for Agunos, to set free those imprisoned in the bindings of Igun”. He notes that “with the help of Hashem, I was able to use many Halachot to open a door for those seeking an answer to the tribulations of the daughters of Israel”.
This Sefer is one of a scant number of Jewish Seforim that were printed during that hard time in Russia, and is a symbol of the continuation of Jewish life even in a period when the persecutions against Judaism increased in Russia.
