Postcard letter from the immense Gaon Rabbi Moshe Shatzkes, Av Beis Din of Łomża to his relative Maran the immense Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzynsky of Vilna. 1934.
The letter deals in issues of upkeeping the Yeshiva and Rabbi Moshe notes that the situation is terrible ‘and I have sorrow due to the debts oppressing me’.
On the other side of the postcard, the name and address of Maran Rabbi Chaim Ozer, in Latin letters.
The immense Gaon Rabbi Moshe Shatzkes (1881–1959), from the greatest Rabbonim of Lithuania and the US. Was raised by his mother’s husband, the Gaon Rabbi Itzeleh Blazer. Studied in the Yeshivos of Slabodka and Telz under the Geonim Rabbi Refael Shapiro and Rabbi Eliezer Gordon. Served as Rabbi in Lipnishki, Iwje, and later in Łomża. Succeeded Rabbi Shimon Shkop as head of the Grodna Yeshiva, and after escaping to the US was appointed Rosh Yeshiva in Yeshiva Rabbenu Yitzchok Elchonon.
