Letter by the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Yitzchak Korb Av Beis Din of Palangen and Zager, author of Netivot Chaim, an important Lithuanian Rabbi – sent to Rabbi Yaakov Dov Rappaport Av Beis Din of Rivinshok and Zeimel – Ponovezh, 1901.

In the first part of the letter, Rabbi Korb asks Rabbi Rappaport to help him receive a position of rav in Rivinshok (near Dvinsk). Among others, he refers to the Gaon Rabbi Meir Simcha of Dvinsk:  "וגם אקוה שהגאון ר’ מאיר שמחה מדווינסק יעזרני בהשתדלותי זאת" (I hope the Gaon Rabbi Meir Simcha of Dvinsk helps me with this effort). In addition, he refers several times to "הגאון מפה" (Rabbi Itzeleh of Ponovezh).

In the second part of the letter, he writes a Maracha on the Sugya of "בעלי חיים אינם נדחים". This content was published in his Sefer Netivot Chai, I, Siman 13.

The entire letter was printed in the Sefer Sdeh Tzofim, on Masechet Pesachim, by Rabbi Shmuel David Friedman,   pp. 861-863.

The Gaon Rabbi Chaim Yitzchak Korb (1872/74–1957) was a disciple of Rabbi Eliezer of Telz. Was ordained by his Rebbi and by Rabbi Itzele of Panevėžys (Ponevezh). Was well-liked by the rabbis of the nearby Dvinsk – the Rogotchover and the “Or Same’ach”. During the years 1908–1914 he served as Rabbi in Palanga. During WWI he served as Av Beis Din in Pavlohrad, Ukraine. After the war was appointed as Rabbi of Old Žagarė in Kovna, and served there for four years. In 1927 he emigrated to the US, and in 1928 was appointed Rosh Yeshiva of “Beit Medrash LeTorah” in Chicago. Author of “Nesivis Chaim”, 4 volumes on the various Sugyos of Shas and on the Rambam, where he paves a unique path of explaining the Rambam’s methodology on critical Sugyot. He also authored Sefer “Tal Shchakim” – sermons and Chiddushim in Agaddah. For his Sefer “Nesivos Chaim” he received many enthusiastic approbations as well as comments and discussions from the Gaon Rabbi Shimon Shkop and the Gaon Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman.
