Early postcard, relatively long, handwritten by the Gaon of Mussar, Rabbi Leib Chasman, author of “Or Yahel”, and signed by him. Sent to his good friend, the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shub, Maran Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky’s right-hand man, regarding Va’ad HaYeshivos in Lithuania, the charity boxes and support of the Yeshivos of Poland. 1926.


In this important letter, the dire need to distribute charity boxes on behalf of Va’ad Hayeshivos throughout Lithuania is mentioned. In addition, Rabbi Chasman also debates the appointment of the Gaon Rabbi Hirshowitz as a Rabbi.

The genius and master of Mussar, Maran the Mashgiach, Rabbi Yehuda Leib Chasman (1869–1936) spiritual administrator of the Yeshivos of Telz and Chevron, and from the greatest of the Mussar movement of his generation. Studied by the Geonim Rabbi Yitzchak Blazar and the Zeide of Slabodka, Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel. In addition he studied for about a year in the ‘Talmud Torah’ of Kelm, under the Zeide Rabbi Simcha Zissel. After his marriage he spent a year in Yeshiva of Volozhin. Served as Rabbi in Shchuchyn, Lithuania, and in the Yeshiva in Telz. Emigrated to Israel and served as the Spiritual leader of Yeshivas Chevron. His teachings were collected in the Sefer ‘Or Yahel’ – an important volume on the roots of Mussar and Hashkafa.
