Diwan, Manuscript. Yemen. 1840. More than [200] leaves, 9X24 cm. Hebrew and Judeo-Arabic. Yemen, the date of ending the copying is wirtten at the edn of the Diwan in Judeo-Arabic "סום אלף לאם ומים תם קולהו".

The Diwan in its early days was added to the end of the prayer Machzor, the Tiklal, and included a collection of Piyyutim and Zemiros. At first, these were the Piyyutim of the poets of the Golden Age in Spain, including the Ibn Ezra, Ibn Gabirol and Rabbi Yehuda Halevi. Later, added to the Diwan were Piyyutim by Yemenite poets headed by Rabbi Shalon Shabazi. Over time, the Diwan was seperated from the Tiklal and was used as a collection of songs for happy events, with each copyist chosing which Piyyutim to include in the Diwan he copied. The form of the Diwan before us is the typical one, of a long and narrow Sefer which can be carried in the pocket of the coat.

New leather binding, slightly worn, moth holes, several leaves are torn horizontically, several gluings and spreading of ink. fair-good condition.
