Chibat Yerushalayim [by Rabbi Chaim Horowitz]. Yisroel Bak Press. First edition, Jerusalem, [1844]. With a first and rare publication from the Beis Midrash of the first Chassidim of Jerusalem.
Sefer Chibat Yerushalayim, the best of Eretz Yisroel and Jerusalem, stories compiled from authors and books, [by Rabbi Chaim Horowitz]. Yisroel [Bak] Press, printed by the printing press gift of Moshe and Yehudis. First edition, Jerusalem, [1844].
[3], 60 leaves, 20 cm. With approbations by the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Chaim Avraham Gagin Av Beis Din of Jerusalem and Rabbi Yaakov Antabi Av Beis Din of Damascus [after his immigration to Jerusalem following his release from prison and torture during the Damascus Affair in 1840].
Several later editions copied and imitated the title page of this edition, which is the true edition that was published in Jerusalem. Printed on leaf [3] is an approbation by Rabbi Aharon Moshe MiGeza Zvi of Brod and a foreword by his father-in-law, "HaRav HaMe’asef", Rabbi Mordechai Horowitz, one of the heads of Collel Chassidim in Jerusalem. Possibly, this leaf is the first publication from the Beis Midrash of the first Chassidim of Jerusalem. This leaf was omitted from the 1858 Konigsberg edition and it is also missing from many of the copies of this edition. Possibly, the rareness of this leaf with the approbations of the leaders of Kollel Chassidim in Jerusalem derives from the fear of the "Prushim" of the intensification of the Chassidic community of Jerusalem.
Semi-leather binding, moth holes, aging stains, fair-good condition.
