A long approbation with Chiddushim and debates in Halacha, all in the handwriting of Maran HaGaon the Rishon LeZion the light and glory of Middle-Eastern Judaism, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. ’00
Such long approbations from Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, full of Torah content, from that time period are rare.
The approbation was given for the Sefer ‘Yedaber Pi’ by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Pinhasi, Chief Rabbi of Kiryat Sefer.
Entirely in the handwriting of Maran, on his official letterhead, with corrections using correction liquid (e.g. white-out), all done by Maran Rabbi Ovadia.
The letterhead used is old, as Rabbi Yosef had ended his term as Rishon LeZion at least 17 years prior to the writing of the approbation.
Uniquely, a typed copy of the approbation, on a different letterhead, is enclosed with the handwritten one. Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef added the date, and signed the second page with a rare addition of “ס"ט”.
In his last years, he almost never signed with the phrase “ס"ט” – it is known that the luminaries of the Sephardic world used to add these initials to their signatures – but Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, hardly used this phrase in his last days. Before us, therefore, is an extremely rare and unmatched signature.
[2] sheets of official letterhead. Different letterheads for both. The long approbation page in his handwriting is not signed, and on the page where the consent was copied in print, his rare signature “ס"ט” appears. Very good condition.
