Copy of a long and fascinating condolences letter from the holy Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Chaim Slonim (Reb Mottel Slonimer), which he wrote to the Rebbe Rabbi Shlomo David Yehoshua, about a month after his father, the ‘Beis Avraham’ passed suddenly away – never printed – In the letter is also personal family content, beside anecdotes from unknown Tzaddikim and Chiddushim in agaddah.

The letter was written in Yerushalayim, Shavuos eve, 1933. Its content was never published. It was hand-copied by R’ Mordechai Shlomo Weinberg OBM (son of the Rebbe the ‘Bircas Avraham’ of Slonim) and was typed up by his son, the Gaon Rabbi David Eliyahu Weinberg OBM, from the heads of Yeshiva Beis Avraham Slonim.

At the start of the letter Reb Mottel writes: “our soul is bitter for it cries for the eldest and only son, and how can we console he who has actually had the terrible tragedy. But now that thirty days have passed, it is the time of the giving of the Torah, when everyone was healed, and we can hope that the Torah, which contains the dews of revival will revive our soul despite this tragedy…” Later on he tells of an unknown anecdote, which he heard from his father, regarding the murder of R’ Shlomo of Karlin, and further on he writes: “now let us frolic a bit in words of Agaddah…”

Also enclosed is a copy of the letter of Rabbi Mordechai Chaim, which he wrote to the Slonimer Chassidim abroad on the occasion of the crowning of the young Rabbi Shlomo David Yehoshua as Rebbe. Hand-copied by Rabbi Mordechai Shlomo Weinberg OBM (son of the Rebbe the ‘Bircas Avraham’ of Slonim).
