Postcard letter from the Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib HaCohen, son of Maran the Chofetz Chaim, in which he tells that he began to serve as Av Beis Din of Radin after his father’s passing, based on the advice of Maran Rabbi Chaim Ozer of Vilna. Tammuz, 5694 (July, 1934).
In the handwritten and signed letter, sent to the Gaon Rabbi Aharon Berek, from the heads of Va’ad Hayeshivos and from the close confidants of Maran the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky of Vilna, the Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib Pupka says that he began to serve ‘עבודת אב"ד’ – work of an Av Beis Din (a wordplay on ‘Eved’ – a slave) – and that he now serves in the town of Radin, his holy father’s city. This, based on the advice of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer.
He continues, saying that “if he (Rav Chaim Ozer) has so advised, who shall oppose him?”
Rabbi Aryeh Leib writes that since he has been appointed Av Beis Din of Radin, he strongly wishes to pay all of his past debts and those of the yeshiva, and he lists the amounts and an address in Warsaw where the money can be sent, or his address of “Rabbi L. Pupka, Radin” – written in Latin letters.
