Don Yitzchak Abarbanel (ca. 1437-1508) one of the leaders of the Jews of the Iberian peninsula (Spain and Portugal) and one of the greatest bible commentators of all time. Was also the Secretary of the Treasury of the kingdoms of Portugal, Castile, Aragon and Napoli. Advocated for the cancellation of the expulsion decree from Spain, yet without success. He left Spain with his Jewish brothers despite the pleas of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabelle, who valued his rare talents. He passed away in Venice, to which he came to settle a dispute between Jewish merchants from Portugal and the leaders of the town, and was laid to rest in Padua.
