‘I am the youngest and poorest of Israel, calling my name Chaim, the Rabbi of Tzanz’ – Responsa Divrei Chaim by Maran the holy Rebbe of Tzanz. First edition, printed in his lifetime. Levov, 1875. Both volumes – preserved exemplar!

Printing house of Avraham Yitzchak Menkis.
Two title pages.

Responsa Divrei Chaim, which was printed during the author’s life, titled with his name. Divrei Chaim on Hilchot Mikva’os had been printed prior to this, without mention of the author’s name.

In the responsa, only his first name is written, without any titles. Beneath it is written that the Sefer was published with the editing of the Rabbonim, the author’s grandchildren.
Maran of Tzanz writes in his short preface that he had seen in the holy Seforim that it is proper to distribute Chiddushim that he wrote ‘and not to hide’. It is possible that he also means to say that there is merit in not hiding his name.

[2] 134, [4] 120 pp. Light age stains. Dark pages. Very light tears in a few pages. Light moth marks around the cover. Full, renewed, later binding. Very good condition.
