A letter calling on the public to increasecharity so as to escape bad and harsh decrees, by Rabbi David Sabah, Rabbi of Rabbat, and the elders of the community. Rabbat, Morocco, early 19440’s during WWII.
Rabbi David Sabah writes that in the merit of Tzedakah all bad and harsh decrees will be removed from us and from you – when he is clearly referring to the events of WWII and the Nazi army which had already begun invading North Africa, including Morocco.
“Charity will save from death therefore strengthen and hold fast. The weak will say I am a hero… Hashem will remove from us and from you all harsh and bad decrees and will save you from all trouble and mishap, in the merit of this great Mitzvah…” Written in Judeo-Arabic, to encourage the community in Rabbat to give charity and promote marital peace. Signed and sealed by the leader of the community, Rabbi David Sabah.
