Rabbi Yehuda Leib Fernbach Schmelkelden is most probably the signatory of this exemplar. His surname is that of an area by that name in Würzburg. He was Rabbi of the region and state, historic Franconia, later North Bavaria. He was one of the prominent community leaders in the area and his name appears on several protocols of the various communities in the surrounding towns.
