Deed of the division and distribution of the estate of the gentleman Rabby Yaakov Rabi between his son-in-law nephew, Rabbi Chaim Avraham Rabi, and his daughter’s son, Rabbi Yehuda Farhi. Signed by the sages of Izmir, Rabbi Yaakov Mizrahi and Rabbi Avraham Amado, and self-signed by Rabbi Yehuda Farhi.

Rabbi Yaakov (son of Rabbi Pinhas) Rabi (passed away in 1813) – a wealthy Tzaddik and Talmid Chacham, who kept Torah thriving in Izmir. Founded the important Torah center “Yeshiva Beit Yaakov Rabi” in Izmir, supported the Torah and Chessed institutions n the city, and funded the publication of many of the Seforim written by Izmir’s sages. Rabbi Haim Palagi, the ‘Habif’, who was a son-in-law of Rabby Yaakov Rabi’s brother, wrote of him with great appreciation “The gentleman, the exalted wise man, light of day, seeker of charities and Chessed, my uncle Yaakov Rabi OBM”. At the end of his life, he emigrated to Yerushalayim and became a fixture in the Beis Medrash. He left behind a fund to perpetuate giving charity in the city and a sum of money to print Rabbi Haim Palagi’s works.
Rabbi Haim Avraham (son of Rabbi Yitzhak) Rabi (1762-1818) – brother-in-law of the ‘Habif’, who, together with his brother-in-law, published the Rashba’s Responsa. ‘Habif’ writes of him in the preface: “The gentleman, the exalted wise man, Chaim Avraham Rabi”.
Rabbi Yehuda Farhi – son of Rabbi Yaakov Rabi’s daughter. Donated money for the printing of Rabbi Haim Palagi’s Sefer ‘Lev Haim’. In the approbation given to this Sefr by the sages of Izmir they write of him: “the wise and exalted… who loved Torah, son of the king’s daughter… poured gold from his pockets with extreme love.”
Rabbi Avraham (son of Rabbi David) Amado – from the greatest of the sages and scholars of Izmir. Son and disciple of Rabbi David Amado, author of ‘Tehila LeDavid’, and son-in-law of the wealthy Meir ben Gabai. Authored several works, but they remained as manuscripts and were lost to a fire.
Rabbi (Bechor Nissim) Yaakov (Mikardo) Mizrahi (passed away in 1869) – from the Rabbis of Izmir, in charge of divorces in the city., and one of the disciples of Rabbi David Amado. The ‘Habif’ wrote of him: “Immense rabbi… who was constantly busy with the Torah and never left the tent, of good Middot, and above all, great humbleness.” Authored the Seforim ‘Baruch MiBanim’.
