Exemplar of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin. Tov LeYisrael, by Rabbi Eliyahu Chayun. Israel Bek Press, Jerusalem, 1869. Single edition. Rare.

‘Bo Tov LeYisrael, an explanation and chiddushim of dןnim (based on) the verses authored by Maharash ibn Sima’on on Shechita and Treifot, and responsa, by Rabbi Eliyahu Chayun’. Israel Bek Press, on the printing press gifted by Moshe and Yehudit Montefiore. Jerusalem, 1869. With stamps of Rabbi Chaim Berlin. Rare.

Owner’s signature on the title page in Solitreo script: ‘The young Moshe Avraham Jemal S”T’, with stamps “Chaim Berlin, son of the Gaon the Netziv OBM, formerly Rabbi in Moscow and Raavad and Ram in Volozhyn, and now in the holy city of Yerushalayim”.
The Shechita and Treifot poems were wrongly attributed to Rabbi shimon ibn Simaon, but were actually written by Rabbi Yehuda ibn Atar.
At the beginning of the Sefer, as part of the publisher’s preface, is a eulogy of the author, written by his uncle.
