Letter with historical research on Ashkenazi Jewry. Handwritten by the great Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Gimple Yoffe of Różana. 1884.
The two-page letter, in the handsome handwriting of Rabbi Mordechai Gimpel Yoffe, and bearing his signature, deals with the time period of the Council of Four Lands, and a special Selicha aritten in memory of the Różana martyrs of 1660.

The immense Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Gimpel Yoffe (1820–1892) Av Beis Din of Różana. From the leading Rabbis of his generation in Lithuania. Disciple of Rabbi Yitzchak, son of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhyn, author of ‘Nefesh HaChaim’. Acted on behalf of “Shivat Tzion” and for that cause was in touch with Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Kalischer (disciple of the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger, originator of the controversy regarding bringing sacrifices in this time), as well as with Rabbi Shmuel Mohliver. In his old age he emigrated to Israel and settled in Ekron and in Petah Tikva.
