‘Singular in the generation, the Gaon, the Chossid’ – a draft of a eulogy on Maran the Gri”Z of Brisk, handwritten by Rabbi Leib Malin, Rosh Yeshiva Beis Hatalmud in the US.
Two index cards from Yeshiva Beis Hatalmud, on which Maran the Gaon Rabbi Leib Malin wrote a draft for a eulogy and an invitation to all Yeshiva students, after the sudden passing of “Our master, teacher, and Rabbi, singular in the generation, the Gaon, the Chossid, Rabbi and beacon of Israel, Maran Rabbeinu Yitzchak Zev Halevi Soloveichik ZTZ”L” – the Brisker Rov.
The immense, unadulterated admiration of a disciple to his Rebbi, coming from one of the Geonim of the generation who was destined to light up the Torah world, is clear and palpable.
The great Gaon Rabbi Leib Malin [1906-1962] one of the leading Bnei Torah of Lithuania before the war. Was a disciple of the great Geonim Rabbi Shimon Shkop, Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibovich and Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman. Pride of the Mir and Brisk Yeshivos, he ardently wrote down the Shiurim of the Roshei Yeshiva and of the Mashgiach, Reb Yerucham of Mir. Was exiled to Shanghai with the Yeshiva and from there emigrated to the USA, where he established the Beis Hatalmud Yeshiva. Was a famed Gadol Hador until his sudden passing.
