Letter sent to Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv in 1934, when he was just 24 years old, by his relative Rabbi Yaakov Shmushkowitz of Boćki (Bialistock district).
Rabbi Shmushkowitz’s letter is written on an official letterhead of his father, Rabbi Nissan Bentzion Shmushkowitz, Av Beis Din of Boćki, dated Jan. 14, 1934.
On one side of the page is a request to deal with the receival of an emigration certificate to Eretz Yisrael, and on the other side are Chiddushim on tractate Yevamot.
The opening lines are extremely interesting, as they display how, at such a young age, Rav Elyashiv was referred to:
“To my relative, the genius Rabbi, treasure house of Torah and piety, etc. Rabbi Yosef Shalom Shlita…”
