The Gaon Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Liska [1808-1874] Author of ‘Ach Pri Tevuah’ and ‘Hayashar VeHatov’. One of the greatest Tzaddikim of Hungary, in his youth, he studied Torah with the Gaon the Tiv Giittin and the Gaon Rabbi Avraham of Dembitz. Then he became a leading disciple of the Rav the Yismach Moshe of Ujhely (Sátoraljaújhely), and a disciple of the Rav Rabbi Yisroel of Ruzhin, the Rav Rabbi Meir of Premishlan, the Rav the Sar-Shalom of Belz, and the holy Rav the Divrei Chaim of Sanz. Thousands of Chassidim from all over Hungary would come to him for blessings and advice, and during his life Liska was the most famous and significant Chassidic court in Hungary. His Gabbai and Shamash was the holy and famous Rabbi Yeshayale of Kerestir, who grew up by him from the age of twelve, and always made sure to sign his correspondence “Yeshaya, son of Rabbi Moshe, who was sexton by the holy Rav of Liska”, attributing his greatness and many virtues to his Rav.
