Letter regarding urgent and immediate matters, by the famed Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Levine, chairman of Global Agudas Yisroel and son-in-law of the holy Imrei Emes of Gur. 1956.


Addressed to the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Schedrowitzky of Bialistock – vice chairman of the Agudas Yisroel movement, from the leading Rabbonim and public figures of Orthodox Jewry during WWII and many years afterwards.

In the letter, Rabbi Levine writes about several current and urgent issues, amongst which are: a financial crisis facing the Hamodia newspaper, appointment of certain people and trust among the lobbyists, activities of Agudas Yisroel to preserve Yiddishkeit and tradition among the Sephardic Jews, the urgent need to convene with the Finance Committee, and payment to clerks.

The Gaon and Chossid Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Hakohen Levine (1894-1971), son of Rabbi Hersh Henich of Bendin – son-in-law of the holy Sfas Emes of Gur. Married the youngest daughter of his uncle, Maran the holy Imrei Emes of Gur. President of Agudas Yisroel in Poland and from its greatest leaders. He later emigrated to Eretz Yisrael, founded the Working Committee and renewed the entire outlook of the Agudas Yisroel movement across the country. Through his incredible effort while being a Member of Parliament he achieved the arrangement of deferral of army service for Yeshiva students, prevention of drafting of Orthodox women, cancellation of the requirement for National Service, the keeping of purity of lineage in the new State, establishment of the network of Chinuch Atzma’I with its thousands of students, and establishment and expansion of Beis Yaakov.
