Historical information on the importance of this edition: After Seforim began being printed, there arose accusations from Christians who complained to the Pope that the Seforim, especially the Talmud, contained material that was offensive to their religion and beliefs. The Pope ordered the burning of the Talmud and on Rosh Hashana of 1553 the Talmud was publicly burnt in Rome. As a result of this, the sages of Italy focused on studying the Halachot of the Rif, which had not been forbidden. During that time this edition of Hilchot HaRif was published, and it was much used in the Yeshivos of Italy.
