Sefer ‘Chazon Ovadia’ on the Halachot of Pesach, by Maran Rav Ovadia Yosef – Jerusalem, 1952 – with dedication of the author to the Gaon Rabbi David Yungreis, Raavad of the Eidah Charedis.

On the front flyleaf is a dedication, handwritten and signed by Maran Rav Ovadia Yosef, to Rabbi David Yungreis: “An offering presented to my honorable close friend, my master and confidant, the renowned and famous Rav, crown of the time, the flask of Mahn, wonder and glory of the generation, honored is his hallowed name, our teacher Rabbi David Halevi Yungreis Shlita. In admiration and appreciation and sentiments of honor, and a blessing for a joyous and Kosher Holiday – Ovadia Yosef S’T”.

Rabbi David Yungreis admired and was fond of Maran Rav Ovadia Yosef already in his youth, and even expressed himself about him saying that he is “A living Sefer Torah”. There was a time when he even wanted to appoint Rav Yosef as a Dayan in the Eidah Charedis, but due to various reasons that did not happen. The admiration was mutual. In Responsa “Yabi’a Omer” (vol. II, Orach Chaim §3), Rav Ovadia copied what Rabbi Yungreis had written to him regarding his first Sefer, Yab’a Omer vol. I: “We see in it a great toil in incredible knowledge and clear understanding of the words of the Gemara and the writings of the Rishonim and Achronim, and it is organized in a right and nice order”.
