“So will Hashem grant that I shall not shame in my old age that he will grant me the merit to further increase and strengthen Torah in more comfortable ways than today, when, due to our great sins my heart hurts to see the difficult suffering of those who sit before Hashem in the tents of the Torah”. A long letter, in the holy handwriting of Maran the great Gaon Rabbi Shimon Yehuda Hakohen Shkop, sent to one of the Yeshiva’s donors. With an addition by his son-in-law, the Gaon Rabbi Shraga Feivel Hindis. 1935.

The letter was sent as in appreciation to Rabbi Aharon Reuven Charny, one of the supporters of the Yeshiva, for the receipt of seventy five Dollars – and Rabbi Shimon Shkop refers to them as Shekalim, even though such a currency did not exist at the time.
Further on, Rabbi Shkop expresses his fervent hope that he will be able to continue the Yeshiva and fund the students easily and with abundant sources.

Rabbi Shimon Shkop then showers blessings for all those who support the Torah and its students, and signs with his full name and seal.

On the reverse side is an addendum by his son-in-law, the great Gaon Rabbi Shraga Feivel Hindis, who asks of the recipient that when his illustrious father-in-law comes to the US, he should stand by him to assist.
He also adds a note regarding a specific student, Mr. Spivak: “he is studying diligently and is advancing in his studies”.

[1] letterhead of Rabbi Shimon Shkop. His handwriting, signature, and seal. His son-in-law’s writing on reverse. A few tears on the fold mark. Wear. Good condition.
