“Sefer ‘Yoreh Chata’im Baderech’, called ‘Sefer HaKaparot’, authored by the great Rabbi… R’ Elazar of Grameisha”. Venice, 1589. Extremely rare.
Yoreh Chata’im Baderech. Juan Deguarre press, Venice, 1589.
This edition is extremely rare and does not appear in the United Catalog of Israeli Libraries.
This Sefer is a reprint of Sefer “Yesod Teshuva” by Rabbi Yitzchak, son of the martyr Moshe Ellis (Krakow, ca. 1585). The printers committed literary theft. They changed the name of the Sefer, hid the name of the author, and removed two poems, in which he hinted at his name. They also added their own verbiage to the title page and even changed the name where it’s mentioned in the author’s preface.
The bulk of the Sefer is based on Hilchos Teshuva by Rabbi Elazar of Worms, with an addition of other things relating to the Halachos of Teshuva which were gathered from many other sources. At the end is printed tha Tzava’ah of Rabbeinu Yehuda HaChassid, which had been copied, with many cuts, from Sefer Yesod Hateshuva.
26pp. Renewed leather binding embossed with the name, place, and year of print. Handwritten illustrations were added to the border on the title page. Stains. Good condition.
