The holy Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam Av Beis Din of Shineva (1815-1899), author of “Divrei Yechezkel ”, eldest son of the holy “Divrei Chaim” of Tzanz, and son-in-law of the “Ari D’bei Ila’ei”. Holy and saintly man of G-D, sharp and well-versed in all parts of the Torah. His father, the “Divrei Chaim” held him in great esteem and honored him. In several of his responsa, he writes of his son: “Not too long ago my son, the great Rabbi, Av Beis Din of Shineva was by me, and told me… and his testimony is extremely trustworthy by me, for I know that he will not tell a falsehood for any fortune in the world” (Responsa “Divrei Chaim”, vol. II, Orach Chaim, §2). He was considered one of the greatest Rabbonim and Admorim of his generation still in his father’s lifetime. Already in his lifetime scores of his descendants served as Rabbis and Admorim in various locations.

His son, the holy Rebbe, Rabbi Avraham Shalom of Stropkov (1857-1940) was named after the holy “Sar Shalom” of Belz (the Rebbi of his father, the holy Gaon of Shineva). In his elder years the name Avraham was added to him as a Segula for long life. His father spoke of him greatly, and said of his soul: “a holy and pure soul, brought from the highest heights, above and beyond)”, and once said: “When they look down from heaven on my son Rabbi Avraham Shalom, the entire world is immediately flooded with mercy”. Was appointed Av Beis Din of Stropkov in 1898, where he served until WWI, and after which he lived in Ungvar (Uzhhorod) and Kashau (Košice). His teachings were printed in the Sefer “Divrei Shalom”.
