First edition of the fundamental Sefer Chassidus: Tiferes Shlomo – Holidays volume – Warsaw, 1867.

The holy Sefer “Tiferes Shlomo” is one of the most important and fundamental of the teachings of Chassidus, which has been accepted and venerated throughout the Chassidic world. The “Tiferes Shlomo” sharply, clearly, and succinctly, using pleasant and clear language, writes of the lofty requirements that the path of Chassidus demands from a Jew in all of Hashem’s worship, on topics of Mesirus Nefesh, holiness, and Shmiras Habris. He writes extensively and painfully about the topics of Glus Hashechina and raising the Nitzotzos from the depths of Klipos. He also includes great and original Chiddushim in Kabbalistic teachings and the writings of the Arizl, especially regarding the lofty connection between Hashem and Am Yisroel. The holy “Divrei Chaim” of Tzanz writes in his approbation that the Sefer
“will be a benefit to the world, and especially to those of faithful spirit who follow the path of Chassidus, for his words are pleasurable”. The holy Rabbi Mendel of Vorka said of this Sefer:
“I have seen in this Sefer three new things, which had the holy Rabbi, the author, not revealed to us, we would not know them until the coming of Moshiach.”

The Sefer “Tiferes Shlomo” was printed posthumously in two volumes. Volume I, on the holidays, was printed in 1867, and vol. II, on the Parshiot, was printed in 1869. Part of the Sefer was handwritten by the author, while another part was written by his disciple, the editor of the Sefer, Rabbi Shmuel Zanvil Tzvi of Pławno, as he heard from his Rebbe (after having recovered from a severe illness thanks to his Rebbe’s prayers). Before or after every section which had been transcribed from the manuscript, the printers note it with “מכי"ק”, to differentiate these sections from those which had been written by Rabbi Shmuel of Pławno.

In the preface to the volume on the holidays, the author’s sons write regarding the manuscripts that: “These holy writings were written on his behest for several years before the Ark of Hashem was taken… and many letters which had been written in his actual, holy hand, these will be set in print noted as a copy from his handwriting… In the last year before his passing, he commanded that all the notebooks be taken… and split in two. One part on the order of the times and Chanukah and Purim, and the other part on the order of the Parshiyot. And we have seen the great value he placed on these writings as he kept them by him at all times to guard them as the apple of his eye.”

Ownership notations: The cover is embossed with: “Chaim Eliezer Rosenfeld” (a Radomsk Chossid, murdered in the Holocaust). On the front cover page is written: “Given as a gift to Admor Chaim Eliezer Rosenfeld, from the Seforim of Admor of Hornosteipel Antwerp” (meaning that the Sefer was given to Rabbi Rosenfeld from the estate of Admor Rabbi Bentzion Yehuda Leib of Hornosteipel-Antwerp (1868-1951), son of the holy Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Dov of Hornosteipel.)

On pg. 1/a a signature: “Moshe Brandwein”.
