Gemara, tractate Horayos, Vienna, 1796.
Personal exemplar in which Maran, Tzaddik Yesod Olam, the holy and exalted Rabbi Chaim of Chernivtsi, author of “Be’er Mayim Chayim” and “Siduro Shel Shabbos” toiled and studied, with his holy handwritten signature incorporated on pg. 8, as was the custom of Maran the “Be’er Mayim Chayim” and his holy descendants for generations to sign their Seforim by incorporating them into the text of the Sefer.
Dispersed between the pages is also the signature of his son, the holy Tzaddik Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of Mahlov. Twice, once on pg. 2 where his name Yaakov is combined with the “ב”, and once on page 6 where his name Yosef is combined with the “ו”. Additionally, on pg. 10, his full name is written using the “י” for Yosef. As said, on pg. 8, using the “ח”, is the signature of his holy father, one of the greatest Tzaddikim of Chassidus.
The holy Gaon Rabbi Chaim Thirer of Chernivtsi (1760’s-1814/15) was one of the famous Gedolim of Chassidus, distinct disciple of the holy Maggid of Zolochiv. Served as Rabbi in Kripecz, Chernivtsi, Mohyliv-Podilskyi, Botoşani, and Kishinev. Was known as an exalted and awesome man of G-D, and wonderous tales are known regarding him. In the Chassidic world, his immense adherence to the holiness of Shabbos is well known, a time when he rose to incomprehensible levels of holiness. His Rebbe, the Maggid of Zlotchov, testified of him that: “he absorbs his entire life-force from the holiness of Shabbos”. It is known that after he went to the Mikveh on Erev Shabbos, his entire form would change, and he would grow taller with several inches. Regarding this we have a clear testimony from Rabbi Meshulam Nosson Margolis Av Beis Din of Berdichev: “I will tell you with clear testimony, that
I have seen him on every Erev Shabbos on his way to the bathhouse and upon his return, and the person who returned was literally not the same person as the one who went; he resembled a completely different person both in his look and his height, and the entire form of his holy body was different than before” (Kevutzas Yaakov). In late 1813 he immigrated to Eretz Yisrael and settled in Tzfas, where hewrote his Seforim “Sha’ar Hatefilah” and “Eretz Hachayim”, and where he was laid to rest. His foundational Seforim “Be’er Mayim Chayim” and “Sidduro Shel Shabbos” are unique in their clear explanations and the fire of Chassidus which permeates them.
The holy Rabbi, Reb Yaakov Yosef Yoska Thirer (passed in 1866, per Ency. Of Chassidus, vol. II, p. 272), son-in-law of Rabbi Yitzchak of Kalisch (son of the “Degel Machne Efraim”). According to the Ency. For Chassidus (ibid.) he succeeded his father’s place in leading the Chassidim in Chernivtsi after the “Be’er Mayim Chayim” left to Eretz Yisrael in 1813. His son, the holy Rebbe Rabbi Yechiel Mechel of Dorohoi, continued the golden chain in his ancestors’ ways.
