The Shtreimel of the immense Tzaddik Yesod Olam, wonder of the generation, miracle worker Rabbi Eliezer Wolf of Butchach (Bucecea), whom Rabbi Meir of Premishlan held in high regard and exalted every blessing coming from him.
Ancient and hallowed Shtreimel, the crown worn on the head of the holy Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Wolf of Butchach, nearly two centuries ago.
The Shtreimel was rigorously kept by his holy descendants, despite all the turmoil of the ages, and was worn by the Tzaddikim of the exalted lineage, on the High-holy days and at the weddings of their children along the generations.
The Shtreimel has a raised Kappel, as was the custom by many Admorim and Tzaddikim, ; a custom with holy sources which is kept today by the Rebbes of the Ruzhin dynasty. One of Rabbi Eliezer Wolf’s sons-in-law was Rabbi Shalom, son of the holy Ruzhiner’s sister.
The Shtreimel was extremely beloved by his holy grandchildren, and was held in high esteem and value by the holy Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch of Kretcnif – Sighet, grandson of Rabbi Eliezer Wolf, who did his utmost to obtain it and wear it.
The holy Rebbe, Chossid and noble, Rabbi Eliezer Zev Rabinzohn of Butchach (Bucecea) (1800-1852), son of the holy Rabbi Chaim. Was a distinct disciple of the holy Tzaddikim Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kosov and his son Rabbi Chaim of Kosov, Rabbi Avraham David of Butchach, the holy Rebbe of Ruzhin, and the holy Rebbe, Rabbi Meir of Premislan. Was recognized among the Gedolim of his time as one of the generation’s Tzaddikim. Was well-known for the miracles he wrought and many thronged to hear his Davening and receive his blessings.
The Tzaddikim of his generation said that he effects salvations and highly exalted things just with his speech.
Rabbi Eliezer Wolf is the forefather of many dynasties of Tzaddikim, being the father-in-law of the holy Rebbe, Rabbi Yechiel of Dorohoi, who, in turn, was the father-in-law of the holy Rebbe Rabbi Meir of Kretcnif.
Rabbi Meir of kretchnif had only daughters. He traveled to the holy grave of his grandfather Rabbi Eliezer Wolf, and there promised that he will name a future son after him. Indeed, soon after was born his famous son, Rabbi Eliezer Zev of Kretchnif.
The Shtreimel was received from his decendant the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Merilus, Gaavad of Bucharest, son of his namesake, the holy Rabbi Eliezer Wolf Merilus of Buychach. Well preserved, it had been slightly repaired over the generations. It has retained the original shape and look. Good condition.
