Certificate of birth, written in German, signed by the holy Gaon, the Ksav Sofer, son of Maran the Chassam Sofer. Above the seal, which is decorated with the Luchot, the Ksav Sofer signed in German: “S. W. Schreiber, Oberrabiner”.
Maran Rabbeinu Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Sofer, the Ksav Sofer (1815-1872) The spiritual leader of Hungarian Jewry after the passing of his father, Maran the Chassam Sofer. In addition to serving as Chief Rabbi of Pressburg, he also served as the Rosh Yeshiva and raised thousands of students. Many of the giants of Torah in Hungary were his disciples.
