Mishnayot Seder Zera’im – Vienna, 1815 – with scores of scholarly glosses written in the holy handwriting of the Tzaddik and Gaon Rabbi Yehuda Grunwald, Av Beis Din of Satmar and author of “Zichron Yehuda”.
An ownership notation of the “Zichron Yehuda” appears on the title page, as well as stamps of the “Satmar Mishnayos Society”.
Some of the glosses are very long.
The Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Yehuda Grunwald, Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshiva of Satmar (1848-1920). From the great Tzaddikim of Hungary. Disciple of the “Goren David”, long-time beloved disciple of Maran the “Ksav Sofer”, and son-in-law of his brother Rabbi Yozepfa Sofer. Starting in 1882, he began serving as Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshiva in several Hungarian cities: Sobotište, Bonyhád, and Šurany. In 1898 he began serving in the Rabbinate in Satu Mare (Satmar). His Yeshiva was one of the leading Yeshivos in Hungary, and there he raised many outstanding disciples, some of whom became the leaders of Hungarian Jewry. Among them: the holy Gaon Rabbi Yosef Nechemia Kornitzer, Av Beis Din of Cracow, Rabbi Shmaya Lev, Av Beis Din of Kerstir, the Csimpa (Tschimpa) Rav, and the Sărmaşu (Sharmash) Rav. Was closely tied to the Tzaddikim of Belz, the Rebbes Mahari and Maharid, who respected and valued him highly.
