On pg. 10 is a gloss in the holy handwriting of the author, the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Rosin, the Rogochover.
Seforim with glosses by the Rogochover are extremely rare and precious.
It appears that this exemplar was never sold commercially, but was given personally by the author to the renowned Gaon
Rabbi Chaim Berlin OBM (including ownership notation).
As is well known, C”K the Rebbe, who was one of the great scholars of the teachings of the Rogochover, treated his manuscripts with great honor. In 1990, R’ Yosef Nimutin passed by the Rebbe during the Dollars distribution and handed him a manuscript of the Rogochover, telling the Rebbe: “we have the merit to hold a holy manuscript from the Gaon, the Rogochover”. The Rebbe accepted the manuscript and said:
“It should be in a good time, a great thank you”; the Rebbe thanked Rabbi Nimutin and gave him an additional Dollar “for the gift, Hashem should help that you should also merit to learn his teachings”.
The Rogochover received great admiration from the rebbes of Chabad. The Rebbe Rashab writes to him: “Exalted friend and soul-friend, the great Gaon, famous in all corners of the world, fear of Hashem is his treasure”.
The Rebbe Rashab writes in one of his letters to the Rogochover: “Honor of the Sar Hatorah, the Gaon in the house of G-D, Nasi of Israel, its light, glory, and fame, known throughout the world, the geniuses of the nation of Avraham’s G-D will pride themselves for basking in his glory, fear of Hashem is his treasure, our master and teacher Rabbi Yosef Shlita.”
The Rebbe Rayatz tells in his diaries that on the eve of Yom Kippur of 1924 he went to receive a blessing from the Rogochover, after having seen his father, the Rebbe Rashab, in his dream the night before, blessing him with incredible blessings. “I do not know the meaning of the things”, write the Rebbe Rayatz about these dreams, “I only hope to Hashem, who is good, that the blessings of the holy father will be filled in mercy and charity, and based on these things by day, I visited the Rav, Rabbi Yosef of Dvinsk, and asked for his blessings.”
The Rebbe’s admiration of the Rogochover and his teachings is known and famous. The Rebbe corresponded with the Rogochover in his younger years, writing to him in one of his letters: “the honor of the Rabbi and Gaon, renowned in name and fame, man of knowledge, best of the sages, master of the treasures…etc. our master and Rav Rabbi Yosef Rosin Shlita”. In another letter the Rebbe titles him with the rare title: “Captain of the sea of Talmud”.
When a picture of the Rogochover was brought to the Rebbe in 1978, he sood up fully and said: “I knew him, I was frequent by him/” the Rebbe kept the picture in his treasury and wrote on it “the Gaon the Rogochover”.
On Purim of 1988 the Rebbe spoke of the Rogochover using rare wording: “In our times there happen in this world scary things… Precisely in these latest of generations such Chiddushim have been innovated that were unimaginable and are unheard of in the Seforim of the previous generations… this is also the simple explanation regarding the Rogochover, who was a completely extraordinary thing. We’re speaking of a Jew who could be seen by human eye, could be seen to eat and drink and sleep, as is well-known, and yet – his method of studying Torah was completely new! His method of studying was extraordinary. He had a Gevaldige method in studying Torah, which we cannot find in the last hundred and fifty or two hundred years.”
